Jose Mourinho has revealed that Nemanja Matic declared his intention to leave Chelsea FC and move to Manchester United before the end of last season.

The Serbia international has been getting used to life at Old Trafford after having signed for the Red Devils from the west London club in the summer transfer window last year.

Matic played a key role in helping Chelsea FC to win the Premier League title in Antonio Conte’s first season at the club last term.

Now however, Mourinho has claimed that Matic made up his mind to leave Stamford Bridge and sign for the Red Devils before Chelsea FC had even lifted the Premier League trophy last term.

Speaking at Manchester United’s annual awards dinner on Tuesday night, Mourinho said: “Matic last March in 2017 told me: ‘I want to play for you and play for Manchester United and I’m going to do it’.

“And he made it happen.”

Manchester United are currently in second place in the Premier League table as they look to try and finish as runners-up to Manchester City.

The Red Devils will then quickly switch their attentions back towards FA Cup affairs and their crunch final showdown with Chelsea FC at Wembley later this month as they look to end Mourinho’s second campaign in charge with a trophy.

Manchester United were 2-1 winners over Arsenal in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday.
