Jose Mourinho replies to talk of Man United signing star sold by Sir Alex Ferguson
Jose Mourinho opens up about the possibility of Man United re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo this summer
Jose Mourinho has played down the chances of Manchester United re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.
The Red Devils are likely to be linked with a host of players this summer as Mourinho looks to bolster his squad and build a team capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season.
Ronaldo has long been linked with a move back to Old Trafford after he left the Red Devils to sign for Real Madrid back in the summer of 2009.
There has been talk that Ronaldo could be leaving Real Madrid in the near future as he approaches the final years of his career.
However, Mourinho appears to have poured cold water on that speculation by claiming that Real Madrid are unlikely to want to sell the Portugal captain.
But Mourinho did also admit that the Red Devils would naturally be interested if Ronaldo did become available this summer.
Mourinho is quoted as saying by Spanish newspaper Marca: “I believe that Real Madrid cannot sell him, it is prohibited.
“He has to stay until the moment they authorise him to go and play one year in America or anywhere else that he wants to enjoy. It is a closed door.
He added: “All the people know his history in Manchester, the passion they have for him and that there are players in the world who, if the clubs have the possibility of signing, will not say no.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United are currently preparing for their FA Cup final clash against Chelsea FC at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils are aiming to end the season on a high by lifting the trophy, which is the final piece of domestic silverware on offer this term.
