Man United open talks about signing £75m-rated 29-year-old – report
Man United are keen to sign Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur, say reports
Manchester United have opened talks with Tottenham Hotspur about the possibility of signing Toby Alderweireld this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Red Devils are keen on bringing the 29-year-old Belgium international to Old Trafford this summer as Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen his squad ahead of next season.
Manchester United are said to be planning a “defensive revamp” this summer as the Red Devils look to assemble a squad capable of challenging Manchester City’s dominance at the top of the Premier League next season.
The same report says that Tottenham are indeed willing to listen to offers for the Belgian defender due to a clause in his contract which would make him available for a much lower fee next summer.
However, Manchester United could be set to pay over the odds if they want to sign the defender, with Spurs reportedly seeking a fee similar to the £75m paid for Virgil van Dijk by Liverpool FC in the January transfer window.
Manchester United missed out on the chance to end the season by winning a trophy when they were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley last weekend.
