Man United on the verge of completing first summer signing – report
Manchester United want to make Juventus full-back Alex Sandro their first summer signing, according to a report
Manchester United are close to completing a deal to make Juventus defender Alex Sandro their first summer signing, according to a report in England.
The Transfer Window Podcast, as quoted by the Daily Star, is reporting that the Red Devils are nearing a deal for the Brazil international.
Sandro has been regularly linked with a move to Chelsea FC over the past 24 months since Antonio Conte took over the reins at Stamford Bridge.
However, Manchester United now appear favourites to sign Sandro which is hardly a surprise given the uncertainty surrounding Conte’s future.
The same article states Jose Mourinho is ready to sign Sandro to improve what has been a problem position for the Manchester United manager.
Reporter Duncan Castles, who is believed to have close ties to the Mourinho camp, claimed that the Red Devils are working on a deal for Sandro.
“Manchester United are doing a lot of work at present on transfers,” Castles said.
“He’s (Jose Mourinho) trying to do a lot of work on the team.
“(He wants) a whole new defence. Alex Sandro they have progressed to the point that Juventus expect him to go to the club, and he’s one of the players Juventus are prepared to sacrifice.
“They think they can get a fee in the region of €60m (£52.5m) for him, and Alex Sandro wants to leave.
“It suits all three parties.
“The player wants to leave a get the payrise, Manchester United desperately need a new left-back and Juventus need cash to overhaul their team and satisfy (Max) Allegri who says he’ll only stay if he gets a big turnover of players.”
Manchester United signed Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez in a swap deal from Arsenal in the January transfer window.
The Red Devils have relied upon 32-year-old Ashley Young in a left-back role this term, with Luke Shaw out of favour under Mourinho.
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table.
