Insider explains why Man United will make 19-year-old first summer signing
Reporter Duncan Castles believes FC Porto right-back Diogo Dalot fits the profile of Manchester United
Diogo Dalot fits the profile of the right-back that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wanted to sign in the summer transfer window, according to Duncan Castles.
The Red Devils are thought to be closing in on the signing of the 19-year-old to provide cover for experienced Ecuador international Antonio Valencia in the Manchester United team.
The 20-time English champions have reportedly agreed a £17.4m fee with FC Porto to make Dalot their first summer signing following their FA Cup disappointment earlier this month.
Dalot was part of the FC Porto side that suffered a 5-0 aggregate loss to Manchester United’s bitter rivals Liverpool FC in the Champions League round of 16 last season.
The teenager would have the chance to learn under his compatriot Mourinho at Manchester United following a promising start to his career at FC Porto.
Reporter Castles believes Dalot is the ideal recruit to improve Manchester United’s options at right-back next season.
“He is extremely highly regarded,” Castles told the Transfer Window podcast. “If you watch him play, you will see why Jose is interested in signing him.
“He is physically strong. He is quick. He is a very good crosser of the ball. He scores goals. He is a solid defender.
“He fits the profile of the right back he is targeting in this window.”
Dalot has made eight appearances in all competitions in the 2017-18 season.
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League but 19 points adrift of Premier League champions Manchester City.
The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley earlier this month.
