Jose Mourinho urged to go all out to make these two Man United signings
Craig Burley wants Manchester United to sign Willian and Toby Alderweireld in the summer
Manchester United need to make signing Chelsea FC winger Willian and Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld a priority this summer, according to Craig Burley.
The Red Devils finished in second place in the Premier League table this season to secure a top-four spot for the first time under Jose Mourinho.
However, Manchester United aren’t any closer to winning their first Premier League crown since 2013 after Mourinho’s men finished a staggering 19 points adrift of champions Manchester City.
The Red Devils lost 2-1 to La Liga giants Sevilla in the Champions League round of 16 to exit the competition prematurely under two-time winner Mourinho.
Manchester United suffered a 2-1 defeat by Championship side Bristol City in the League Cup last four to miss out on a place in the Wembley showpiece.
The 20-time English champions can still win their third major trophy in two seasons since the Portuguese head coach replaced Louis van Gaal if Manchester United beat Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final.
Former Chelsea FC defender Burley believes Alderweireld and Willian would transfer Manchester United into a better team next season.
“Yeah sign those two, absolutely,” Burnley told ESPN FC.
“Willian’s pace. He spent a long part of the season coming off the bench and then he got game time and looked great as you’d expect, so direct.
“Alderweireld obviously has been excellent beside Vertonghen until the injuries and the contract talks thwarted that.
“Davinson Sanchez did quite well for them (Tottenham).
“But yeah absolutely the kind of players that I think they will go for.
“Whether or not they’ll get them I don’t know.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson won his final top-flight crown.
