Manchester United have identified Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld as one of their top transfer targets in a big summer spending spree, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Red Devils are planning to embark on a “£250m-plus” overhaul of their squad after a disappointing season ended up with them finishing without a trophy.

Manchester United were beaten by Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday as they missed the chance to end the season with some silverware.

According to the same story, Belgian defender Alderweireld, 29, is one of the Red Devils’ top transfer targets this summer as Manchester United look to significantly strengthen their squad.

The central defender has long been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane and he has been strongly touted as a possible target for Manchester United.

The Red Devils are likely to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks and months as Mourinho looks to assemble a squad capable of winning the Premier League title next season.

Manchester United have not lifted the top flight trophy since their final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in the 2012-13 season.
