The Red Devils secured a second-placed finish in the Premier League on Thursday night thanks to their goalless draw with West Ham United in the Premier League at the London Stadium.
Manchester United will end their Premier League season with a home clash against Watford this weekend, and former Liverpool FC star Lawrenson is backing Jose Mourinho’s men to claim a comfortable victory over the Hornets.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “It’s been a bit of a strange season for Manchester United, but they are going to finish second and they could win the FA Cup too.
“But Jose Mourinho’s playing style is clearly a major problem for some United fans, and the other big issue is that they don’t look like they are going to be anywhere near Manchester City again next season either.
“I am expecting United to win and pass the 80-point mark, which has been enough to win the title in four seasons during the Premier League era, but they never got close to City this year.
“Meanwhile, it has been a difficult campaign for Watford and, although they have never really been in danger of relegation, this could be Javi Gracia’s last game in charge of the Hornets.”
Manchester United are still aiming to try and end the season with a trophy when they take on Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley at the end of the month.
The Red Devils won two trophies – the Europa League and League Cup – in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge last season.
Manchester United are bound to be linked with a host of players in the summer transfer window as Mourinho looks to assemble a squad capable of winning the Premier League title next season.
The Red Devils will be looking to challenge Manchester City’s dominance at the top of the Premier League next term.
