Michael Owen is backing Newcastle United to secure a positive result against Chelsea FC at St James’ Park on Sunday.

The Blues will travel to Newcastle for their final Premier League fixture of the 2017-18 and possibly their last top-flight fixture under Antonio Conte’s management.

Chelsea FC are in fifth place in the Premier League table and two points adrift of Liverpool FC, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.

The west London side wasted the chance to draw level on points with Liverpool FC mid-week following a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town at Stamford Bridge.

Conte’s men need Brighton and Hove Albion to beat Liverpool FC at Anfield on Sunday to have any hope of pinching a Champions League spot from their bitter rivals.

Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is backing Newcastle to win or draw against Chelsea FC at St James’ Park on Sunday.

“After a run of four successive wins, Chelsea could only draw with Huddersfield midweek, a result that means all three promoted sides will avoid relegation – only the third time this has happened in the history of the Premier League,” Owen told BetVictor.

“United have certainly blown hot and cold this season and their Wembley loss midweek means they have lost four league games in a row for a third time this season.

“Rafa Benitez and his players will be keen to give the Toon Army something to cheer on Sunday, however, and I think they will pick up at least a point against last year’s champions.”

Chelsea FC won the Premier League title last season to secure top-flight glory in Conte’s first season in charge of the west London outfit.

The Blues will face Manchester United in the FA Cup showpiece at Wembley later this month after Chelsea FC lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the final last term.
