Paul Scholes: Why Jose Mourinho should be proud of Man United team
The Manchester United legend is adamant that Jose Mourinho should be proud of his players despite a 1-0 loss to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final
Paul Scholes believes Jose Mourinho should proud of his Manchester United team despite their 1-0 loss to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.
The Red Devils missed out on the chance to end the 2017-18 season on a positive note following a disappointing defeat by the west London side.
Eden Hazard scored a first-half winner from the penalty spot after England international Phil Jones brought down the Chelsea FC number 10 inside David De Gea’s box.
Manchester United dominated possession but the Red Devils couldn’t beat Chelsea FC goalkeeper Thibaut Cortois in the FA Cup showpiece at Wembley.
Mourinho and his players will finish the season without silverware for the first time since 2014-15 and the Portuguese head coach will be under more pressure in the 2018-19 campaign.
However, Manchester United legend Scholes, who has been an outspoken critic of Mourinho and his playing style, felt that the Portuguese head coach should be proud of his squad.
“The quality in the final third from Manchester United wasn’t good enough,” Scholes told BT Sport.
“I think Jose should be proud of his team. They played really well. It’s probably one of the best performances without the end product.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge for the Old Trafford outfit.
The Red Devils finished 19 points adrift of runaway Premier League champions Manchester City after a one-sided title race.
