Gary Neville has taken to social media to salute Gareth Bale after the Wales international netted a sensational overhead kick to help Real Madrid beat Liverpool FC 3-1 in the Champions League final.

After a goalless first half in Kiev, Real Madrid took the lead in the 51st minute when a Loris Karius error allowed Karim Benzema to fire home into an empty net.

However, Liverpool FC drew level when Sadio Mane scored from close range just four minutes later.

Real Madrid were in front soon after though, when Bale came off the bench to fire home a spectacular overhead kick in the 64th minute.

And Bale made it 3-1 to the Spanish side when his long-range effort was parried into the net by Karius in the 83rd minute to secure Real Madrid’s third consecutive Champions League triumph.

Former Manchester United defender Neville was quick to take to social media to react to the brilliant overhead kick from Bale.

Neville wrote on Twitter: “Not joking. That may be the best goal I’ve ever seen… good timing as well like!”

Liverpool FC must now dust themselves down as they prepare for next season, still searching for their first trophy since Jurgen Klopp’s appointment at Anfield back in October 2016.

The Reds are in the Champions League next season after having finished fourth in the Premier League this term.
