Michael Owen is backing Tottenham Hotspur to beat Newcastle United at Wembley on Wednesday night.

Spurs have left the door ajar for Chelsea FC to pip their London rivals to the final Champions League qualification spot.

Tottenham suffered a surprise 1-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns last weekend to leave Spurs two points ahead of Chelsea FC.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are looking to secure a top-four finish for the third successive season after finishing in second and third in the last two campaigns.

Newcastle have lost their last three Premier League games since cementing their Premier League status for another season.

Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is backing Tottenham to beat Newcastle at Wembley on Wednesday night.

“Both sides suffered disappointing defeats at the weekend but I expect the hosts – with the carrot of a top four finish and Champions League qualification – to keep the points in the capital following this Wembley clash,” Owen told BetVictor.

“United have lost their last three, but are still in pole position for a top ten finish although, with Chelsea the visitors to St James’s Park on Sunday, it is fair to say they have a demanding last week of the season.”

Tottenham lost 2-1 to Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley last month after the Red Devils came from behind to seal their place in the showpiece against Chelsea FC.

Spurs suffered a 4-3 aggregate defeat by Serie A giants Juventus in the Champions League round of 16 earlier this term.

Tottenham finished seven points behind Chelsea FC in the Premier League title race last term.

Spurs striker Harry Kane has netted 27 goals in the Premier League this term but trails Liverpool FC star Mohamed Salah by four strikes in the race to win the division’s golden boot.
