Jasper Cillessen replies when asked about Arsenal, Liverpool FC transfer speculation
The FC Barcelona goalkeeper responds to speculation about his future at Arsenal and Liverpool FC
Jasper Cillessen insists he will only leave FC Barcelona if the La Liga champions want him to do so amid interest from the Premier League.
The Netherlands international has been linked with a potential move to Arsenal and Liverpool FC in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners are looking to identify a long-term replacement for current number one Petr Cech as the Czech Republic international enters the twilight of his career.
Loris Karius made two horrendous mistakes in Liverpool FC’s 3-1 loss to La Liga side Real Madrid in the Champions League to prompt a fresh wave of speculation surrounding Liverpool FC signing a new goalkeeper.
Cillessen has found his first-team opportunities limited at FC Barcelona season given Germany international Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s impressive performances for the Catalan side.
Asked about reported interest from Arsenal and Liverpool FC in his signature this summer, Cillessen told Fox Sports: “I think that I played well in the matches I had in the Copa del Rey.
“I need to wait patiently. The only thing I know is that Barcelona won’t sell me.
“Arsenal and Liverpool aren’t bad clubs but if Barcelona say, “We love you”, then I’ll accept their decision and continue there.
“I’ll wait until we return on the 16th July to see what they’ve decided.
“I don’t know anything. If the club wants to keep me, I’ll accept that. I signed a five-year deal with them.”
Cillessen’s only appearance in their title-winning campaign came in a 5-1 win over Villarreal at Camp Nou on 5 May.
He made one appearance in the Champions League but featured in seven of their Copa del Rey fixtures.
Cillessen moved to FC Barcelona in a deal from Ajax in the 2016 summer transfer window.
