Arsenal have made signing Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira as their top midfield target this summer, according to a report in England.

The Daily Mail is reporting that the Gunners are prioritising the signing of the Uruguay international following Unai Emery’s appointment.

The same article states that Arsenal duo Raul Sanllehi and Sven Mislintat are hoping to conclude a deal with Sampdoria and Torreira before the World Cup starts.

Torreira will be hoping to line up against Arsenal star Mohamed Elneny and the rest of his Egypt team-mates in their World Cup opener on Friday evening.

According to the same story, the transfer fee will be in the region of £22m if the Gunners can strike a deal with the Serie A outfit.

The South American scored four goals and made one assist in 36 games in Serie A last season to build upon his promising reputation.

Arsenal are looking to overhaul their squad after the Gunners finished in sixth spot and outside the Champions League spots last term.

The north London side have missed out on Champions League football in the last two seasons to culminate in Arsene Wenger’s resignation.

The Gunners lost 3-0 to Manchester City in the League Cup final last season.
