Ainsley Maitland-Niles reveals Arsenal advice from Unai Emery
Ainsley Maitland-Niles has revealed that Unai Emery has already met him to discuss what he expects of him at Arsenal
Ainsley Maitland-Niles has revealed that Unai Emery has already met with him to set out what he expects from his Arsenal players.
The Spanish manager is getting used to life at the north London club after having been appointed as Arsene Wenger’s successor at The Emirates back in May.
Emery has been charged with assembling a team who are capable of breaking back into the top four next season after the Gunners finished in sixth place and without a trophy last term.
Arsenal youngster Maitland-Niles impressed when called upon in a number of first-team appearances last season and he made a total of 28 appearances in all competitions under Arsene Wenger last term.
And the 20-year-old has revealed that he has already held a meeting with his new boss, who set out what he expects to see from him over the coming weeks and months.
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s website, Maitland-Niles said: “We had a little meeting.
“He said that he wants all of his players to work hard and I’m no stranger to doing that. It will be second nature to me.
“I think [the high-pressing game] suits me a lot, too. I’ve got a lot of pace to give to the team, pressing up high and winning the ball back as soon as possible is a major factor in football.”
Arsenal are believed to be on the lookout for a number of top signings this summer as Emery looks to stamp his authority at the north London club.
The Gunners will be aiming to challenge for the Premier League title in the coming seasons as they look to try and win the trophy for the first time since their famous unbeaten triumph in 2004.
