Alex Iwobi has admitted that he is looking forward to proving himself under new Arsenal manager Unai Emery next season.

The Spaniard has been appointed as the new man in charge at The Emirates after Arsene Wenger opted to step down at the end of last season after 22 years in charge of the north London club.

Emery has been tasked with helping to restore Arsenal to the pinnacle of English football, with the Gunners having slumped to fifth and sixth placed finishes in the last two years.

Arsenal will have to make do with Europa League football next season as they look to try and enjoy a successful debut campaign under Emery next term.

Iwobi has admitted that he feels indebted to Wenger after the Frenchman gave him his chance in the first team at Arsenal.

However, the Nigeria international also says that he is now looking forward to a new chapter under Emery at The Emirates.

Iwobi is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard: “I was surprised by his decision. [Wenger] has been there for me since I joined the club and has been very inspirational and influential on my career, but I am excited having our new manager [Emery] next season.”

Emery has been tasked with guiding Arsenal back into the top four places in the Premier League after their recent below-par performances.

The north London side have not won the Premier League title since 2004.
