Arsenal are planning to announce the imminent signing of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen, according to reports in the German media.

German outlet Sport-Bild, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Gunners are set to confirm the arrival of the shot-stopper this week as their second signing of the summer.

The same report says that the transfer fee is expected to be in the region of £20m as Unai Emery looks to bolster his options between the posts ahead of his first campaign in charge at The Emirates.

The article also claims that Arsenal are “close” to agreeing terms with both the player and the German club ahead of the proposed transfer.

Arsenal are believed to be on the lookout for a long-term successor for Petr Cech, who is approaching the end of his career at the top level, and the 26-year-old Leno could fit the bill for the north London side.

The Gunners have already confirmed the arrival of veteran defender Stephan Lichtsteiner as their first signing of the summer following Emery’s appointment at The Emirates back in May.

Emery will be aiming to try and steer Arsenal back into the top four next season after the Gunners finished sixth and without a trophy last term.
