Unai Emery phones Argentina international to convince him to sign for Arsenal – report
Unai Emery is desperate for Arsenal to conclude a deal to sign Ever Banega from Sevilla, say reports
Unai Emery has phoned Ever Banega to try and convince the Sevilla man to sign for Arsenal this summer, according to reports in Spain.
Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that Banega is Emery’s current number one target as he looks to bolster his squad at The Emirates.
Arsenal confirmed their second signing of the summer transfer window last week when they announced a deal to bring goalkeeper Bernd Leno to the club from Bayer Leverkusen.
Now, the Gunners are reported to have turned their attentions towards trying to sign Argentina international Banega as Emery searches for his third summer signing.
According to the same report, Emery is determined to “go all out” to try and bring Banega to The Emirates this summer.
The 29-year-old is understood to have a £17.5m release clause in his contract with the Spanish side, and the player himself reportedly has concerns about leaving Spain.
Arsenal are looking to significantly strengthen their squad this summer as they look to try and build a team at least capable of breaking back into the top four next season.
The north London side ended up in sixth place in the table and without a trophy in Arsene Wenger’s final campaign in charge last term.
