Cesc Fabregas admits he’s a fan of reported Arsenal transfer target
Cesc Fabregas admits that he is a big fan of Uruguay youngster Lucas Torreira
Cesc Fabregas believes that Lucas Torreira has the potential to develop into a top player as the Uruguay starlet continues to be linked with Arsenal.
The 22-year-old Uruguay international has been strongly linked with a move from Sampdoria to The Emirates this summer as Unai Emery looks to bolster his squad ahead of next season.
Indeed, Sampdoria’s president was quoted as saying that the midfielder is indeed poised to move to Arsenal in a €30m deal earlier this week as the Gunners look for their third signing of the summer.
Fabregas is on punditry duty for the BBC at the World Cup, and the Chelsea FC midfielder has admitted that he is a big fan of both Torreira and fellow Uruguay star Rodrigo Bentancur, as he singled them both out for future stardom.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Fabregas said: “I think he [Bentancur] is one of the positives of the tournament, individually, so far.
“He’s a young boy who signed for Juventus. He hasn’t played a lot but you can see that he has a lot of personality, likes to play, he’s not scared.
“And for a team like Uruguay that doesn’t have a lot of ‘ballers’ or possession – they need a player like him.’
“They also have Torreira on the bench who I really like for Sampdoria and they break lines.”
Arsenal completed their second signing of the summer on Tuesday when they wrapped up a deal to bring goalkeeper Bernd Leno to the club from Bayer Leverkusen.
The north London side will be aiming to at least break back into the top four next season after the missed out on Champions League qualification for the second season running last term.
