Sky Sports reporter: Arsenal close to signing 23-year-old
Dharmesh Sheth says Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Gelson Martins from Sporting Lisbon
Arsenal are close to tying up a deal to bring Gelson Martins to The Emirates this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The north London side are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they bid to build a squad capable of breaking back into the top four next season.
The Gunners finished in sixth place in the table last term as the missed out on Champions League qualification for the second season running, before Arsene Wenger stood down at the end of the campaign.
Arsenal have been credited with an interest in signing 23-year-old Portuguese winger Gelson Martins in recent weeks as new manager Unai Emery looks to add to his squad at The Emirates.
Now, Sky Sports News reporter Sheth has claimed that the north London side are indeed close to a deal to bring the winger to The Emirates this summer.
Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast, Sheth said: “Gelson looks close. The transfer fits Emery’s profile. It fits Arsenal’s limited transfer budget too.”
Arsenal confirmed their second signing of the summer last week when they tied up a deal to bring goalkeeper Bernd Leno to the club from Bayer Leverkusen.
The north London side have not won the title since 2004.
