Spanish newspaper Sport, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that both of the London clubs have approached the Spanish giants to enquire about the availability of the goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal are thought to be in the market for a long-term replacement for Petr Cech, while Chelsea FC are facing doubts about Thibaut Courtois’ long-term future at Stamford Bridge.
According to the same story, new Arsenal manager Unai Emery has asked Gunners chiefs to explore the possibility of a deal to sign 29-year-old Dutch goalkeeper Cillessen from FC Barcelona this summer.
The same article also claims that Chelsea FC have contacted the Spanish side about the possibility of signing the shot-stopper this summer.
The report says that FC Barcelona are not prepared to negotiate over the goalkeeper’s price tag, and they do not want to sell him for anything less than his €60m (£52m) release clause.
Arsenal have not yet made any new signings this summer following the appointment of Emery as the club’s new manager, while Chelsea FC are also thought to be in the market for reinforcements.
