Dharmesh Sheth has confirmed that Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria this summer.

The Gunners have been strongly linked with a deal to bring the Uruguay international to The Emirates this summer as Unai Emery looks to revamp his squad ahead of his first campaign in charge.

Arsenal have already confirmed their first two signings of the summer transfer window after announcing deals for both Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bernd Leno in recent days.

Torreira, 22, has been heavily linked with a switch to The Emirates, and Sky Sports News reporter Sheth has now confirmed that a deal is close for the midfielder.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast, Sheth said: “We are told that the agreement is close [for Torreira]. Discussions over terms and the agent fees continue.”

Arsenal will be looking to at least break back into the top four in Emery’s first season in charge at the north London side.

The Gunners have not won the Premier League title since 2004 and they have finished outside of the top four spots in the Premier League for the last two seasons running.

However, Arsene Wenger did lead Arsenal to three FA Cup titles in the last five seasons before he stepped down at the end of the most recent campaign.
