Sky Sports reporter give update on Arsenal talks to sign 22-year-old
Dharmesh Sheth delivers the latest update on Arsenal's bid to sign Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria
Arsenal are still in negotiations with Sampdoria about the deal to sign Lucas Torreira from the Italian club this summer, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Gunners are believed to be keen on bringing the 22-year-old to the club this summer as Unai Emery looks to revamp his squad ahead of next season.
Arsenal have already confirmed their first two signings of the summer transfer window after having tied up deals for both defender Stephan Lichtsteiner and goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
The north London club have been strongly linked with a move to sign Sampdoria starlet Torreira in recent days.
And now, Sky Sports News reporter Sheth has delivered the latest update on the Gunners’ attempts to negotiate a deal with the Italian club to sign the midfielder.
Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast, Sheth said: “Arsenal are in talks with Sampdoria over signing the midfielder.
“It is a weird way of structuring the payment. It is good and bad news for both Arsenal and Sampdoria.
“Torreira has a £25m release clause. Sampdoria want it paid out up front. Arsenal want to pay in instalments. Arsenal are prepared to pay £30m in £10m instalments every year.”
Arsenal are looking to at least break back into the top four next season following Emery’s appointment as Arsene Wenger’s successor at The Emirates.
The north London side have finished outside of the Champions League qualification spots for the last two seasons running and their target will be a top-four finish next term.
Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign under Wenger.
