Club president confirms Arsenal are set to make third summer signing
Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero confirms that Arsenal are set to sign Lucas Torreira this summer
Arsenal are set to complete a deal to sign Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria this summer, the Italian club’s president has confirmed.
The north London side have been strongly linked with a move to bring the Uruguay international to The Emirates this summer as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of Unai Emery’s first season in charge.
Arsenal have already completed the signings of Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bernd Leno this summer, and the Gunners have also opted to let Jack Wilshere leave the club after 17 years at the end of his contract.
Now, Arsenal are widely reported to be closing in on the signing of 22-year-old Uruguay international Torreira as their third summer signing.
And Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero seemed to confirm the transfer while speaking in a live interview with Italian TV show SportItalia: “Torreira has left for €30m. I bought him from Pescara when no one believed. We bet and we won, paying just €3m.
“The money that comes in is used to keep the club going.”
Emery has been tasked with steering Arsenal back into the top four of the Premier League after they missed out on Champions League qualification for next season.
The north London side have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph under Arsene Wenger back in 2004, but they have won three FA Cup titles since their move from Highbury to The Emirates.
