Marco Reus delivers honest opinion on Arsenal star Mesut Ozil
Marco Reus has insisted that Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is still a key player for Germany
Marco Reus has insisted that Mesut Ozil is still a key player for Germany despite being dropped at the World Cup.
The Arsenal playmaker featured in the opening defeat by Mexico but was dropped by Joachim Low for Germany’s dramatic 2-1 win over Sweden at the weekend.
Ozil is no stranger to criticism, and he has been singled out countless times for his below-par performances at Arsenal in recent seasons.
Despite this, the 29-year-old recently signed a new deal at The Emirates which is believed to net him in excess of £300,000 a week in wages.
It remains to be seen whether Ozil will be able to force his way back into contention for a starting spot at the World Cup, but his team-mate Reus has insisted that he is still a key player for the national team.
Reus is quoted as saying by the Daily Star: “It just shows that Mesut, despite not playing, is with the team, and is there for us.
“He’s just an extremely important player for us.
“He’s one of the best players in the world, and I am more than convinced we’ll see him in this tournament again.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal confirmed their second signing the summer last week when they concluded a deal to bring goalkeeper Bernd Leno to the club from Bayer Leverkusen.
The north London side are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they bid to build a squad capable of winning the Premier League over the next few seasons.
