Ray Parlour delivers surprising assessment of Mesut Ozil at Arsenal
Ray Parlour claims Mesut Ozil often attracts unfair criticism for his performances for Arsenal
Ray Parlour has claimed that Mesut Ozil attracts unwarranted criticism for his performances for Arsenal.
The 29-year-old has regularly come under fire for his inconsistent displays for the Gunners, but he was handed a new contract at the turn of the year to keep him at The Emirates for another three seasons.
Ozil was dropped for Germany’s second World Cup clash against Sweden in Russia this month and he has often been criticised for his performances in an Arsenal shirt.
It is now down to new Arsenal manager Unai Emery to try and get the best out of Ozil at The Emirates in the coming seasons.
And Arsenal legend Parlour has stuck up for the World Cup winning playmaker, insisting that the criticism aimed his way is often unfair.
Parlour is quoted as saying by the Daily Star: “He’s a top player, it’s a little bit unfair at times the criticism he gets.
“He’s always going to be targeted because he’s on big money but if you watch him play he’s a very clever player, so Emery might even build a team around him.”
Ozil will be hoping to help Arsenal challenge for the Premier League trophy next season as Emery looks to steer the north London side back to the top of English football.
The Gunners finished in a disappointing sixth place and without a trophy last season in what was Arsene Wenger’s final campaign in charge of the club.
