Sevilla sign potential replacement for reported Arsenal target – report
Sevilla moved to sign a potential replacement for Ever Banega by bringing in Roque Mesa, say reports
Sevilla have moved to sign a potential replacement for Ever Banega by bringing in Roque Mesa this week, according to reports in the British media.
The Independent, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Spanish club’s move to sign Mesa could indicate that they are preparing for the departure of Banega, who has been heavily linked with Arsenal this summer.
According to the same story, Banega has a £17.6m release clause in his contract at Sevilla and Arsenal could be poised to trigger it this summer.
Banega is currently on international duty with Argentina at the World Cup in Russia and he started during the 2-1 win over Nigeria earlier this week.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are thought to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as Unai Emery looks to build a team capable of breaking back into the top four next season.
The north London side finished in sixth place in the table last term as they missed out on Champions League qualification for the second season running under Arsene Wenger.
The Gunners confirmed their second signing of the summer last week when they tied up a deal to bring goalkeeper Bernd Leno to the club from Bayer Leverkusen.
