Sky Sports reporter: Arsenal to announce signing on 1 July
Arsenal will announce the signing of Sokratis Papastathopoulos early next month, says Dharmesh Sheth
Arsenal will announce the signing of Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund on 1 July, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The north London side have been widely reported to be closing in on a deal to land the defender as Unai Emery looks to bolster his rearguard options at The Emirates.
Arsenal confirmed their second signing of the summer last week when they announced a deal to bring goalkeeper Bernd Leno to the club from Bayer Leverkusen.
The Gunners are now widely expected to be able to tie up a deal to bring 29-year-old defender Papastathopoulos to The Emirates this summer ahead of Emery’s first campaign in charge.
And Sky Sports News reporter Sheth has now revealed that the deal for the defender is likely to be confirmed at the start of next month due to tax reasons.
Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast, Sheth said: “That one is likely to happen on 1 July. Dortmund want to announce it at the start of the new tax quarter in Germany.”
Arsenal will be looking to at least break back into the top four next season in Emery’s first campaign in charge at the club.
The north London side have finished outside the Champions League qualification spots for the last two seasons running, before Arsene Wenger opted to step down at the end of last term.
