Unai Emery expresses his delight at seeing Arsenal tie up a deal to bring in Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen
Unai Emery has expressed his delight at seeing Arsenal tie up a deal to bring goalkeeper Bernd Leno to the club from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
The shot-stopper became Arsenal’s second signing of the summer transfer window on Tuesday as the north London side tied up a deal to bring him to The Emirates this week.
The 26-year-old will be hoping to make the number one spot his own at Arsenal in the coming seasons, with the futures of Petr Cech and David Ospina looking unclear following his arrival.
And new Arsenal boss Emery has expressed his delight at seeing the Gunners successfully complete a deal to bring Leno to the club from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s website, Emery said: “We are very pleased that Bernd Leno will be joining us.
“Bernd is a goalkeeper of high quality and experience. He has been a top performer and regular number one goalkeeper with Leverkusen in the Bundesliga for the past seven years.
“We are all excited that Bernd has chosen Arsenal Football Club and look forward to start working with him in pre-season.”
Emery will be aiming to steer Arsenal back into the Champions League qualification spots in his first season in charge at the club after the Gunners missed out on top four finishes for the last two seasons running.
The north London side have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign under Arsene Wenger.
However, they did win the FA Cup in three of Wenger’s final five seasons in charge at the north London side.
