Arsenal medical scheduled for 29-year-old this week – report
Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund, according to reports
Sokratis Papastathopoulos will undergo a medical at Arsenal this week ahead of his proposed move from Borussia Dortmund, according to reports in Germany.
German outlet Kicker, as quoted by The Sun, is reporting that the 29-year-old defender is set to undergo a medical at the club’s training ground before his move to The Emirates goes through.
The same story says that Arsenal are believed to have agreed a £16m fee to sign the Greek defender as Unai Emery immediately sets about improving his new squad.
Emery has been appointed as the club’s new manager after Arsene Wenger stood down at the end of the season, but the Spaniard is yet to make any signings this summer.
Papastathopoulos has reportedly already agreed terms with Arsenal and is set to sign for the Gunners in the coming days, with him looking set to be their first recruit of the summer.
Emery has been tasked with steering Arsenal back into the Champions League places for next season, with the Gunners having finished fifth and sixth in the last two campaigns.
Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign, when they were still playing their home games at Highbury.
