Arsenal hope second summer signing will be ‘next Jens Lehmann’ – report
Arsenal hope Bernd Leno will turn out to be the next Jens Lehmann, according to a report
Arsenal are hopeful that Bernd Leno can replicate Jens Lehamnn’s success at The Emirates, according to a report in England.
The Daily Mail is reporting that the Gunners are hoping Leno can follow in his compatriot’s footsteps and become their undisputed number one for many seasons to come at the north London side.
Arsenal confirmed the signing of Leno on Tuesday night as they announced their second signing in the summer transfer window to improve their options between the sticks.
Current Arsenal number one Petr Cech struggled to maintain his high standards during the 2017-18 season, while his understudy David Ospina lacked consistency when called upon.
According to the same story, Leno shares similarities with Bayern Munich and Germany number one Manuel Neuer and Lehamnn is thought to have been sounded out about signing the Leverkusen shot stopper.
The Gunners struggled defensively throughout the 2017-18 season after Arsenal conceded 54 times in 38 games in the Premier League.
Arsenal signed 34-year-old Switzerland international Stephan Lichtsteiner in a free transfer from Serie A giants Juventus last week.
The Gunners are being linked with a potential swoop to bring in controversial Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini.
