Arsenal will face competition for top 22-year-old defender, claims journalist
Arsenal will have to overcome competition to sign Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu, according to Dharmesh Sheth
Arsenal will face competition to sign Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu in the summer transfer window, Dharmesh Sheth has claimed.
The Gunners have been linked with a swoop to sign the 22-year-old to improve their defensive options under new manager Unai Emery.
The Turkey international has established himself as a promising talent in the Bundesliga in the 2017-18 season.
The 6ft 2ins defender scored one goal in 26 appearances in the German top flight to get valuable experience under his belt.
Soyuncu has also racked up 15 appearances for the Turkey national team to highlight his rising status in the German top flight.
The Turkish defender has been linked with a potential move to Arsenal and Liverpool FC over the past few weeks.
Sky Sports News reporter Sheth confirmed that the Gunners are facing a battle to win the race to sign Soyuncu.
“They will have competition for him because there are a number of clubs interested,” Sheth told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“Sven Mislintat has been an admirer since he was at Dortmund. The agent says the talks are concrete they just need to settle on a price.”
Arsenal finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table to miss out on the Champions League place for the second successive seasons.
The Gunners lost 2-1 to La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals.
