Freiburg defender Calgar Soyuncu wants to complete a move to Arsenal this summer
Calgar Soyuncu has confirmed that he wants to move to Arsenal this summer if the Gunners can agree to a deal with Freiburg.
The Turkey international has emerged as a target for new Arsenal boss Unai Emery in the summer transfer window.
The Spanish head coach is looking to improve his options at the back after the Gunners conceded 54 times in 38 games in the Premier League last term.
Reports suggest that Arsenal’s new head of recruitment Sven Mislintat in responsible for pinpointing Soyuncu as a possible contender to improve the Gunners defence.
Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp has also been linked with a swoop to sign the Turkish defender in the transfer window.
The Freiburg defender has confirmed that he is interested in a move to the north London side ahead of the new Premier League season.
“Arsenal are an option and I want to go there. But I have three more years on my current contract and everything depends on the club [Freiburg],” Soyuncu told Turkish outlet Gunes.
“I received offers from teams in Turkey. I would not be able to give you a name, but I rejected them. I do not think about playing in Turkey at the moment. I want to continue my career in Europe… I want to play for the biggest clubs.”
Arsenal signed veteran Switzerland international Stephan Lichtsteiner in a free transfer from Serie A giants Juventus earlier this month.
The Gunners concluded a £20m deal for Bayer Leverkusen and Germany goalkeeper Bernd Leno this week to land their second summer signing.
Arsenal finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term to miss out on Champions League football for the second successive season.
