Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth confirms Arsenal's interest in Portuguese winger Gelson Martins
Arsenal are one of a number of clubs interested in Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins, according to Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The Portugal international is sure to be one of the hottest priorities in the summer transfer market.
Martins is available to sign on a free transfer this summer after the Portuguese talent cancelled his contract with Sporting Lisbon.
The Portuguese side are in turmoil and Martins is one of four players who has moved to terminate their deals due to just cause.
The 23-year-old would have commanded a significant transfer fee giving his rising status as a star of Portuguese football.
Martins netted 13 times in 52 games in all competitions last season to attract interest from Arsenal and some other clubs.
Sky Sports News reporter Sheth confirmed that Arsenal are interested in a deal to sign the Portuguese winger in the current transfer window.
“Arsenal are one of a number of clubs interested in Gelson Martins,” Sheth told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“He has made a move to terminate his contract citing a just cause to leave.”
Arsenal finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League spot for the second successive season.
The Gunners haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when Arsenal could call upon talents such as Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires.
