Arsenal considering bid to sign 23-year-old winger – report
Arsenal and Juventus are interested in signing Gelson Martins from Sporting CP, according to reports
Arsenal are considering a move to sign Gelson Martins from Sporting CP, according to reports in Portugal.
Portuguese outlet O Jogo, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the north London side are pondering a move to bring the 23-year-old to The Emirates this summer as they look to add to their attacking options.
Arsenal are yet to officially confirm the first signing of the Unai Emery era after the Spaniard was appointed as the club’s new manager last month following Arsene Wenger’s decision to step down.
Martins was in impressive form for Sporting last season, scoring 13 goals and making 13 assists in all competitions for the club.
According to the same story, both Arsenal and Juventus are keeping tabs on Martins this summer as both clubs look to bolster their options on the wing ahead of next season.
The same report says Emery is keen to add a technically-skilled winger to his squad this summer, but Martins’ €60m release clause could pose a problem for the north London side.
Arsenal ended last season without a trophy and in sixth place in the Premier League in what was a disappointing campaign for the north London club in Wenger’s final term in charge.
