Arsenal are set to conclude a deal for Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira in the next 24 hours, according to a report in Uruguay.
Website Football.London is quoting unnamed reports in Uruguay that are claiming Torreira is on the brink of a move to Arsenal from Sampdoria ahead of the World Cup.
The same article states that the Gunners are set to announce their second summer signing after the north London side reached a £26m agreement with the Serie A outfit.
According to the same story, Arsenal officals and Torreira’s agent Pablo Bentancur are jetting out to Russia to negotiate a contract before the World Cup kicks off.
The Uruguayan reports add that the national team have given permission for the 22-year-old to leave their camp to sort out a deal before their World Cup opener against Egypt.
Torreira scored four goals and made one assist in 36 games in Serie A in the 2017-18 season to attract interest from Arsenal and Napoli.
Arsenal signed Switzerland captain Stephan Lichtsteiner in a free transfer from Serie A champions Juventus in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a Champions League spot for the second successive campaign.
