Arsenal are pondering a move to try and sign Mehdi Benatia from Juventus this summer, according to reports in Italy.

Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, as quoted by the Daily Mirror, is reporting that the Gunners are interested in bringing the 31-year-old Morocco international to The Emirates this summer.

The same report says that Juventus could be prepared to sell the centre-half and that the Italian club value him at around £20m, which would be within Arsenal’s transfer budget.

Arsenal have already bolstered their defensive options this summer by confirming the signing of right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner on Tuesday.

It remains to be seen whether new manager Unai Emery will continue to bolster his squad by bringing in Benatia this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of breaking back into the top four next season.

Arsenal are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as Emery looks to revamp his squad following his appointment as Arsene Wenger’s successor at The Emirates.

The north London side will be aiming to break back into the top four next season after they ended up in sixth place last term and missed out on qualification for next season’s Champions League.
