Arsenal will complete a deal for Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos on 1 July, Dharmesh Sheth has comfirmed.

The Gunners finished in sixth spot in the Premier League last season to miss out on a Champions League spot for the second successive campaign.

The north London side have regressed over the past decade or so culminating in Arsene Wenger’s exit at the end of the 2017-18 season.

The Gunners appointed Unai Emery as the Frenchman’s replacement ahead of the 2018-19 Premier League campaign.

The Emirates Stadium outfit has been linked with a potential deal to sign experienced Dortmund centre-half Sokratis.

Sky Sports News reporter Sheth confirmed that Arsenal are on the brink of concluding a deal to sign the Greek defender.

“That deal is expected to be announced on July 1,” Sheth told the Transfer Talk podcast. “It seems to be all done according to our information.”

Arsenal signed 34-year-old Switzerland international Stephan Lichtsteiner in a free transfer from Serie A giants Juventus last week.

The Gunners are being linked with a potential swoop to bring in controversial Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

Arsenal finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table last term to regress under Wenger.
