Insider claims Arsenal will complete second summer signing on Wednesday
Reporter Greame Bailey believes Sokratis Papastathopoulos will become an Arsenal player on Wednesday
Arsenal will complete a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos on Wednesday, reporter Graeme Bailey has claimed.
The Gunners signed Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner in a free transfer on Tuesday afternoon to bolster their defensive options under Arsenal boss Unai Emery.
The Switzerland captain will add vital experience to the Gunners defence after winning seven Serie A titles and four Coppa Italia crowns.
Arsenal have also been linked with a potential swoop to sign Greece defender Sokratis from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund over the past few weeks.
The Gunners have close ties with the German side given their new head of recruitment Sven Mislintat worked for Dortmund before he took up the post in north London.
Sokratis’ former Dortmund team-mates Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are currently at Arsenal following their switches in the January transfer window.
Reporter Bailey backed Arsenal to wrap up a deal to sign Sokratis on Wednesday to further bolster their defensive line up.
Bailey wrote on Twitter: “Former Juventus full-back Stephan Lichsteiner has joined Arsenal and will be joined in next 24 hours by Borussia Dortmund centre-half Sokratis Papastathopoulos.”
Arsenal finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a spot in the Champions League.
The Gunners lost 3-0 to Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley in the 2017-18 season.
