Unai Emery told Arsenal should sign 29-year-old instead of Marouane Fellaini
Liverpool FC legend Steve Nicol believes Arsenal should sign Steven N'Zonzi instead of Marouane Fellaini
Steve Nicol has urged Arsenal to look at Steven N’Zonzi instead of Marouane Fellaini in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners have been linked with a sensational swoop to sign the Belgium international from Manchester United this summer.
Fellaini is set to become a free agent this summer after failing to agree to a new contract with the Red Devils.
The defensive midfielder has been a useful player under Portuguese head coach Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
However, Fellaini wants a significant upgrade on their £80,000 a week deal at Manchester United, which could be problematic.
Arsenal turned to Unai Emery last month to replace Arsene Wenger after the French head coach stood down after 22 seasons in charge.
The Gunners have also been linked with N’Zonzi in the recent past, while Emery worked with the French midfielder at Sevilla.
Former Liverpool FC defender Nicol urged Arsenal to consider a move for N’Zonsi instead of Fellaini.
“N’Zonzi is a better version of Fellaini,” Nicol told ESPN FC.
“He can do a lot more with the ball. He has a physical presence but he can pass the ball.”
Manchester United lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley following Eden Hazard’s winner from the penalty spot.
The Red Devils ended the season without a trophy in Jose Mourinho’s second season in charge.
