Unai Emery sent warning about new Arsenal signings
Kevin Campbell has a message for the Arsenal boss about his defence
Unai Emery will need to organse the Arsenal back four as well as adding new defenders to his Gunners squad this summer, according to Kevin Campbell.
The Gunners have only completed one deal in the summer transfer window so far after 34-year-old Switzerland captain Stephan Lichtsteiner completed a free transfer from Serie A giants Juventus earlier this month.
The veteran defender will add experience to the Arsenal team but there remains concerns about Shkodran Mustafi’s incosnsistent performances as well as Hector Bellerin’s regression over the past season or so.
The Gunners have also been linked with a swoop to sign Borussia Dortmund centre-half Sokratis Sokratis Papastathopoulos and promising Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal conceded 51 times in 38 games in the Premier League last season to miss out on Champions League football for the second successive campaign.
Former Gunners striker Campbell warned Arsenal maanger Emery that the north London side need to be more organised in defence rather than just simply adding new players to their squad.
“They’re going to bring new players in,” Campbell told Sky Sports.
“But I think it’s the defensive side of the game which is where Arsenal kind of floundered under Wenger, at the back end of Wenger’s career.
“So I think that’s going to be the key, getting that point across to the players, making sure the players understand and adhere to what he’s going to do.
“At the end of the day they need to implement it on the pitch.
“I think that is going to be key.”
Arsenal finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on Champions League football for the second successive campaign.
