Robert Pires issues support for Arsenal’s pursuit of 17-year-old PSG star
The Arsenal legend believes Paris Saint-Germain teenager Yacine Adli will be a good addition to the Gunners squad
Robert Pires has talked up Arsenal’s pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain teenager Yacine Adli.
The Gunners are thought to be closing in on a deal to sign the France youth international in a summer transfer swoop to bolster their squad with one eye on the future.
Adli will be offered a three-year contract at the north London side if Arsenal are able to complete a deal to sign the French midfielder prospect.
The 17-year-old made his PSG debut against Caen towards the end of the 2017-18 season under current Gunners boss Unai Emery.
Reports in England suggest that Arsenal’s head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is hoping to persuade Adli that his development will be best served at Arsenal.
After all, the north London side were responsible for transforming French talents Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Nicolas Anelka into world-class talents.
Former Arsenal playmaker Pires believes Adli would be an excellent addition to the Gunners squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
“He’s a talented player,” Pires told Sky Sports News. “I know him. He has very good quality, he’s very fast with the ball. Sometimes he can score.
“I know Emery likes this type of player. I don’t know what’s happening but if he joined Arsenal, I think he would be a good player for the new squad.”
Emery took over the reins at Arsenal from Arsene Wenger after the French coach stood down following 22 seasons in charge at The Emirates.
The Gunners have finished outside the Premier League’s top four for the second successive season to miss out on a Champions League spot.
