Craig Burley questions why Arsenal want to sign 30-year-old
ESPN FC pundit Craig Burley isn't sure why Arsenal want to sign Man United star Marouane Fellaini
Craig Burley has spoken of his bemusement that Arsenal could sign Marouane Fellaini from Manchester United this summer.
The Belgium international is set to become a free agent in the summer ahead of his contract at Old Trafford coming to an end.
Fellaini has spent five seasons at Manchester United but the holding midfielder has never won over all the Red Devils supporters.
Current Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is a big fan of Fellaini due to the Belgian’s versatility in a variety of midfield positions.
Fellaini has won the Europa League, the FA Cup and the League Cup following his move to Manchester United from Everton in 2013.
Arsenal appointed Unai Emery as Arsene Wenger’s successor last month after the Gunners finished in sixth place in the Premier League table.
The Spanish head coach appears to be targeting experienced professionals in the summer transfer window.
Former Chelsea FC defender Burley has expressed his surprise that Arsenal are considering a swoop to sign Fellaini.
“The game is gone. How lucky is he going to be?” Burley told ESPN FC. “Move to Everton. Move to Man United. Possible move to Arsenal.”
Manchester United signed Fellaini in a £27m deal from their Premier League rivals Everton in the 2013 summer transfer window.
