Chelsea FC to finally appoint new manager with Zola as assistant – report
Chelsea FC are closing in on a deal to appoint Maurizio Sarri as their new manager, say reports
Chelsea FC are closing in on a deal to appoint Maurizio Sarri as the club’s new manager with Gianfranco Zola as his assistant, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mail is reporting that the west London club are now closing in on an agreement with Napoli to be able to bring the Italian to Stamford Bridge this summer.
The same report says that a deal is likely to be announced after the Blues are able to reach an agreement with Antonio Conte’s £9.5m in compensation for him and his staff.
It is also claimed in the same article that Chelsea FC legend Zola is cutting short his work as a pundit for South African TV to fly back to London on Wednesday.
According to the same report, Chelsea FC had also considered Laurent Blanc and Luis Enrique but Sarri has been Blues owner Roman Abramovich’s preference.
The west London side are believed to be on the looking for a change in management after Conte’s team slumped to a disappointing fifth placed finish in the Premier League last season.
The Blues did manage to end last season on a positive note, however, when they beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
