Chelsea FC have rejected a £17.6m bid from Arsenal for defender David Luiz, according to reports in France.

French outlet Le10Sport, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Gunners have had a bid for the 31-year-old defender turned down by the Blues in recent days.

The Brazil international’s future at Stamford Bridge has been a source of speculation recently after he fell down the pecking order at the west London club under Antonio Conte last term.

The same story says that Arsenal are now pondering whether to return to Chelsea FC with an improved offer after their initial bid was knocked back by the west London club.

David Luiz was limited to just nine starts in the Premier League for Chelsea FC last season.

Arsenal are believed to be on the lookout for defensive reinforcements this summer as Unai Emery prepares for his first season in charge of the north London side.

The Gunners have appointed the Spaniard as Arsene Wenger’s successor at The Emirates after the Frenchman chose to step down at the end of last season.

The north London side finished in sixth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy last term as they missed out on Champions League qualification.
