Top manager wants €15m a year to replace Antonio Conte at Chelsea FC, says insider
Ian McGarry delivers the latest update on Chelsea FC's apparent search for a new manager
Luis Enrique is the “obvious” candidate to take over from Antonio Conte at Chelsea FC this summer, according to Ian McGarry.
The Italian manager’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent weeks after the Blues ended up in fifth place in the Premier League last season and missed out on Champions League qualification.
Chelsea FC did manage to end the campaign with a trophy after they beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final, but Conte is still widely tipped to leave the west London club this summer.
Maurizio Sarri is one name to have been regularly linked with the job at Stamford Bridge, but football consultant McGarry feels that former FC Barcelona boss Enrique would be a better fit for the Blues, so long as they are able to come to an agreement about his high wage demands.
Speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, McGarry said: “The obvious candidate to replace Conte is Enrique. He is demanding €15m euros net a season to replace Conte.”
Chelsea FC are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they look to build a squad capable of winning the Premier League title next season.
However, the west London side are yet to announce any new arrivals at Stamford Bridge as the speculation about the managerial situation continues.
