Marcus Rashford praises Thibaut Courtois for his performance for Belgium against England on Thursday
Marcus Rashford praised Thibaut Courtois for his performance as England suffered a 1-0 loss to Belgium at the World Cup on Thursday night.
Gareth Southgate made eight changes to the side which beat Panama last weekend and the Three Lions ended up losing as Adnan Januzaj netted the impressive winner for Belgium.
Rashford has a brilliant chance to equalise for the Three Lions in the second half when he was put through on goal.
However, Chelsea FC goalkeeper Courtois rushed out of his goal to meet Rashford as the Manchester United striker placed his shot wide of the right-hand post.
The pair have come up against each other plenty of times at club level in the Premier League.
And Rashford has admitted that the Chelsea FC goalkeeper made it difficult for him as he spurned the chance to equalise for Gareth Southgate’s men.
Speaking in an interview with ITV Sport after the game, Rashford said: “To be fair, it’s not the first time it’s happened against him
“I know that he comes out fast and spreads himself very big when he comes out.
“I think if I keep it on the floor and get a bit of extra detail on the finish it maybe has a chance of going in the far post.
“But I lifted it a bit and he got a fingertip to it.”
England will now prepare to take on Colombia in the last 16 of the World Cup on Tuesday night after having finished second in their group behind Belgium.
Rashford will be hoping to earn a starting spot in that game following his strong form for England.
