Chelsea FC and Tottenham stars to delay decisions on futures, says Martinez
Roberto Martinez delivers the latest update on the likes of Eden Hazard and Toby Alderweireld
The likes of Eden Hazard and Toby Alderweireld will delay the decision about their futures until after this summer’s World Cup, according to Belgium manager Roberto Martinez.
Hazard’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent weeks amid claims that Real Madrid could try and sign the Chelsea FC star this summer.
Alderweireld, meanwhile, has been strongly linked with a transfer to Manchester United in recent weeks as his Tottenham Hotspur future continues to remain uncertain.
Both players are currently on international duty with Belgium at the World Cup, with Martinez’s side having got their group stage campaign off to a winning start by beating Panama 3-0 on Monday.
And the Red Devils manager has insisted that his squad are not being distracted by the relentless talk about their futures during the tournament in Russia.
Speaking at a news conference on Monday, Martinez said: “The group has decided to only focus on the World Cup. All the personal situations will be put to one side. There’s no worry about that.”
Hazard’s Chelsea FC future has been a source of speculation after the Blues missed out on qualification for next season’s Champions League.
The west London side finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term but managed to end the campaign on a positive note by beating Manchester United in the FA Cup final back in May.
