Andy Townsend explains how Chelsea FC could sign Gareth Bale
The Chelsea FC legend believes the Blues could secure a deal to sign Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale
Andy Townsend believes Chelsea FC could pull off a deal to sign Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale in the summer transfer window.
The Wales international has been linked with a potential move to Manchester United in recent months after the Red Devils made a number of failed attempts to sign the 29-year-old winger.
Bale scored two goals in Real Madrid’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool FC in the Champions League final in Kiev to win the competition for the fourth time.
The Real Madrid forward has also been touted with a potential move to Chelsea FC despite the Blues missing out on a top-four finish in the 2017-18 season.
Eden Hazard has been linked with a move to the Spanish capital in recent seasons but the Belgian forward has remained at the west London club.
The 27-year-old’s current contract at Chelsea FC is set to expire in 2020 to open up the possibility of a free transfers in two seasons.
Former Chelsea FC defender Townsend believes Bale and Hazard could swap clubs in the 2018 summer transfer window.
“What about Hazard to Madrid and Bale to Chelsea?” Townsend told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“If Hazard has a sensational summer, we know Real Madrid like to buy from the top shelf. Something like that could be done.”
Chelsea FC were 1-0 winners against Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley last month thanks to Eden Hazard’s winner from the penalty spot.
