Chelsea FC reassured 29-year-old striker ‘ticks a lot of boxes’
Shaka Hislop endorses Chelsea FC's pursuit of Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain
Shaka Hislop has backed Chelsea FC’s pursuit of Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain in the summer transfer window.
The Argentina international has been linked with a potential move to Chelsea FC ahead of the 2018-19 Premier League season.
Juventus are reportedly open to the sale of Higuain despite signing the South American from Serie A rivals Napoli in 2016.
Higuain has fired Juventus to successive Serie A titles but the Argentina international has been unable to help the Italian club get their hands on the Champions League crown.
The South American scored 16 times and made six assists in 35 games in Serie A last term to produce a solid if unspectacular campaign.
Chelsea FC signed former Juventus striker Alvaro Morata in a £58m deal from La Liga side Real Madrid last summer.
However, Morata scored 11 times in the Premier League to raise questions about his future at the west London side.
Former West Ham goalkeeper Hislop believes Higuain would be a good addition to the Chelsea FC team.
“I’ll tell you what, I think this ticks a lot of boxes,” Hislop told ESPN FC.
“I know Antonio Conte is there for the time being, but I don’t expect him to be Chelsea manager at the start of next season.
“I still think they need an out-and-out, top-notch striker at Stamford Bridge. ‘This makes sense, whether Higuain is happy to not play Champions League football, time will tell.”
Chelsea FC finished in fifth place in the Premier League table to miss out on a Champions League spot.
The Blues were 1-0 winners against Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley last month.
